Fish Hoek Information

Situated between two mountains and two oceans Fish Hoek is well known for its white sandy beach. Simon's Town is also famous for the fact that no alcohol was sold at shops or bars; this law was laid down by Lord Somerset in 1919n- you could bring and drink your own alcohol but were not able to buy any! This benefited the town as there was a minimal crime rate. Today many restaurants and sports clubs are licensed although there is no bottle store. Simon's Town offers the visitor many activities such as swimming, surfing, sailing, canoeing & surfing. International Life Saving events are frequently held here.

Fish Hoek is situated along the False Bay Coastal Rd from Simons Town. It is mostly a retirement village, but still a very busy commercial and tourist attraction. The town is surrounded by Elsie's Peak, and Chapman's Peak, two beautiful mountains, creating a sheltered cluster town.

The Fish Hoek beach is one of the nicest and safest beaches in South Africa, with it's long sandy beach that is perfect for bathing and body boarding. The Beach is often sheltered from the wind by the surrounding mountains, but when the wind picks up, Hobie-Cats and Windsurfers also take to the beach.

Fish Hoek has many sports clubs, including Football, Cricket, Bowling, Sailing, Badminton, Hockey, Surfing, Lifesaving, Squash & Tennis clubs.

Along Main Street is the busy hug of commercial activities with shops and market stalls competing for customers. The street is lined with coffee shops, restaurants, second hand book shops and antique shops to name but a few. Just off main street is the Fish Hoek fish market where newly caught fish are wrapped and sold or shipped off to businesses that will package and sell the fish. The newly built Sun Valley Mall also provides great entertainment or a shopping experience for the avid shopper. If that is not enough, there is still the Fish Hoek Museum where the history of the town can be viewed.

Fish Hoek truly is a hub of activity and a busy town. It's a very popular destination for tourists to visit and enjoy coastal life in this busy little fishing village.
