The beach is divided into four smaller beaches, or coves, called 1st Beach, 2nd Beach, 3rd Beach and 4th Beach. These four beaches are separated by massive granite boulders, which shelter the beaches from the South Easter and gives it a look and feel of a Mediterranean resort.

Clifton Beach is known for its breathtaking sunsets and it was rated one of the top ten beaches by Discovery Channel in 2003. Behind Clifton Beach, the Twelve Appostles mountain range reaches to the sky, being the buttresses of Table Mountain. In the summer, Clifton Beach is a rather popular hot spot, with many people visiting, some being famous local and international celebrities!
