The hotel buildings, dating back to 1682 were painstakingly
restored and have been declared a National Monument. Here
the legendary elegance and traditions of the 17th century
blend harmoniously with the most refined luxuries and conveniences
of our modern age.
The first owner of Steenberg was an extraordinary young lady,
Catherina Ustings, who arrived in the Cape in 1662 from Lubeck
on the Baltic Coast of Germany. She named the farm Swaaneweide
- feeding place of Swans - which today is the Steenberg Estate.
This boutique hotel is a haven of serenity with a choice of
elegant, air-conditioned rooms located in the original Manor
House, Jonker's Huis, Barn, Swaaneweide and Spurwing Houses.
Each en-suite room is tastefully furnished with exquisite
antiques and all rooms overlook the vineyards, golf course
and manicured garden.
The Manor House is an original farmhouse and is the oldest
building on the Steenberg Estate, dating back to 1682. Beautiful
antiques and ornaments reflect the elegant style of the 17th
and 18th centuries. The patio offers shelter for guests to
relax and perhaps catch up on the reading of a long overdue
novel. The Steenberg Estate has its own exclusive and private
18-hole championship golf course that meanders leisurely through
the Steenberg Vineyards, Pine Forest and gentle waterways.

The private Steenberg Golf Club is available to hotel guests,
members and their guests only. Steenberg golf course has been
designed to take full advantage of natural features and 'hazards'.

Winemaking has been a tradition at Steenberg since 1695. Steenberg
guests can journey through the entire process of winemaking
from the Steenberg vineyards; visiting the wine producing
and storing areas, then tasting the award winning wines. Steenberg
vineyards produces a variety of grapes such as Sauvignon Blanc,
Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Semillion, Cabernet
Franc, Pinot Noir, Shiraz, Nebbiolo and Tale Grapes.
Steenberg is also an ideal starting point for a visit to some
of the Cape's other attractions. The Beautiful waters and
white sand beaches of False Bay and the spectacular views
of Chapman's Peak are a few minutes away, a drive to Cape
Point Nature Reserve takes only 45 minutes, the centre of
cosmopolitan Cape Town, South Africa's mother city, takes
20 minutes.
